The companies are working on a roll-out to make the service available on different devices.

The streaming game is big, and its only just begun. Companies from all walks are jumping into it, including Best Buy, OnLive, and now Sears.

Sears and Kmart launched their new movie service Alphaline this week. Alphaline is a combined effort with Sonic Solutions and is on the same Roxio platform as many others. Using the service you'll be able to rent and buy HD movies for viewing.

Now that the service has launched, there need to be devices out there that can use it. That's not far in the future, according to Sears. "We'll continue to increase the reach and flexibility of the Alphaline Entertainment service," says Sears and Kmart president Karen Austin, "by providing consumers on-demand access to the latest entertainment from a range of home and mobile electronics."

You can check out the new service for yourself at Alphaline.

Roxio Streamer Lets You Enjoy Your Digital Content Anywhere

Want to access your massive movie collection on-the-go? You can, with Roxio Streamer.

An 8GB MP3 player just won't do it for music fans. That's an absurdly small amount of space to store the best picks from a massive collection, and it's even smaller for movie lovers. Roxio's new streaming software lets you access your digital media no matter where you are.

You don't need much to get to your movies and music, just an internet connection and a device that can handle Adobe Flash. Just browse on over to your collection and listen, watch, download and even share.

That's right, share. If you've got a folder full of tunes that you want a friend to check out, or pictures of your trip for Mom to download, they can access it too.

Roxio doesn't specify a resolution or bitrate for streaming video, unfortunately.

You can pick up the Roxio Streamer now, directly from Roxio at a price of $49.99. Premium features are included free for the first year.

Roxio Will Be Launching on More Devices than Ever

Hundreds of consumer electronic devices will be using Roxio this fall.

The guys at Sonic Solutions have found a great deal of success in their Roxio platform. Sure, the Roxio service didn't take off like Netflix did, but Sonic Solutions is not powering a variety of different web based video offerings.

Companies like Blockbuster and Best Buy use the Roxio backbone for their sales and rentals, and that's big business.

Sonic announced today hundreds of new devices would be carrying the Roxio distribution platform this holiday season. The list of makers includes the usual suspects like LG, Onkyo and Panasonic, but also some unexpected names like Sylvania, Memorex and HTC.

The new arrangement will create a whole new line of content for Boxee users.

Sonic Solutions is the company behind Best Buy's CinemaNow service, Blockbuster's video on demand service, and a few others too. It's a pretty big name in the digital delivery world.

And that's why Boxee has licensed the RoxioNow entertainment platform. The addition of the Roxio service is huge, since it will allow users of both the Boxee Box and the standalone Boxee software to access all new content that includes HD movies with 5.1 surround sound.

If that's not cool enough, the RoxioNow service is friendly with a lot of different devices, like PCs, DVRs and mobile devices. If you rent a movie in one place, you can watch it wherever you like. Not a bad setup.

Boxee is in the midst of integrating RoxioNowand according to the official Boxee blog, we'll see everything Roxio up and running by the time the Boxee Box ships this November.
