The KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-40XBR4, and KDL-40XBR5 are the models affected.

The backlighting system in some 40 inch Sony Bravia televisions is causing problems. This defect is causing some TVs to overheat, or even catch on fire. The company says that there are somewhere around 400,000 TVs affected by this issue.

A recall has been issued in Japan, but in the US the onus is on you to check your set and contact Sony. If your set model does match one of the model numbers listed, Sony will send out a service crew to inspect the TV and repair it if necessary.

"While we have no reports of any resulting damages to other property or bodily injuries," says the company in a statement issued Wednesday, "Sony offers all customers of the affected models a free in-home evaluation for the covered product."

ThinkFlood Issues a RedEye Recall

An entire lot of the popular iPhone IR blaster is suffering from structural issues. A refund or exchange is available to owners.

You may remember the RedEye Mini as the recently launched device capable of turning your iPhone into an infrared remote. It plugs into the phone via the audio jack, creating a customizable and easy to use touchscreen remote.

Unfortunately, an entire batch of the blasters got a recall recently, with ThinkFlood citing structural issues. "We have determined that there is a high likelihood that these units will fail," reads the official recall. "As a result of being improperly secured, circuit boards are coming loose from their housings and being jostled about … resulting in erratic behavior of the unit."

If you have already purchased one of these devices, you'll be able to get a full refund or an exchange for a unit from the next batch, which has the problem fixed. ThinkFlood also states that they've switched manufacturers, so this problem won't happen in the future.

Paramount Issues RECALL of 'Saving Private Ryan'

Cites problem in the authoring process causing audio sync failure.

Yikes! If you're a fan of Spielberg's celebrated 'Saving Private Ryan,' you were probably psyched to see it coming to Blu-ray. And hey, maybe you went out and bought it last week when it hit shelves. If you haven't watched it yet, you may be in for a surprise, though as our review this week made showed, the reported errors don't seem to be happening on all players.

People have been reporting problems with audio sync from chapter 15 onward, and that's finally been confirmed by Paramount, who are issuing a recall on all 'Saving Private Ryan' Sapphire Series Blu-ray discs. The problem, according to Paramount, occurred during Technicolor's authoring process, and wasn't caught before replication.

Amazon and other Blu-ray retailers have put sales of the disc on hold until they're able to get new copies in stock.

If you did buy the disc, you can return it to the store you bought it from after Tuesday, May 18th, when replacement copies will be available. You can also call Paramount's hotline at 888-370-8621 (08000-852-613 for our friends in the UK) and get more details on how to receive a replacement copy of the disc.
