Vita Sales Continue to Sink - Still Well Under PSP Sales

After a strong first week, the Vita has really started to tank.

Handheld game systems traditionally do very well in Japan. The PSP did incredibly well, especially when compared to its initial sales within the U.S. For some reason - more likely a handful of reasons - the PlayStation Vita just isn't moving.

After an impressive first week that saw around 325,000 systems leave the shelf, the Vita's sales numbers collapsed. It sold just 72,000 in week two - around 72% of what the PSP sold in the same week. In week three of the Vita's life, things are even worse.

The Vita sold a mere 42,000 units in the last week while the PSP managed 62,000. That puts Vita sales at 67% of PSP sales. That's not a good sign by any measure.

PlayStation Network Game Sharing Gets Cut Down

You'll now be able to share content across 2 PSPs or 3 PS3s.

Sony's PlayStation Network is getting a bit stricter starting November 18th. The number of devices allowed to access a game on the same account is being cut down.

In a week and a half PlayStation Network titles will only be accessible on up to three PlayStation 3s and just two PlayStation Portables. It's a pretty reasonable number, but those owning multiple systems are certainly going to be upset.

One of the big problems, of course, is that your old PS3 or PSP that you've sold or has broken will still show up as activated. Sony is planning on a website that will allow you to deactivate these, but in the meantime you can contact customer service to take care of it.

PSN Cards Removed From Amazon

The PSN section of Amazon just shows up as blank.

It's pretty reasonable to be wary of handing your credit card number over to Sony these days. They haven't exactly done a great job of protecting their data and no one wants their card getting in the hands of those who might use it maliciously. Well, it's assumed that no one does anyway.

The workaround is, of course, to buy PSN game vouchers and point cards from other sources. One of the best sources has been Amazon, since they allow the quickest possible access to your new titles. However, visiting the PSN page of Amazon reveals that this source has been cut off.

"We have no announcements regarding this change in selection," says an Amazon PR rep, "however we can confirm that Amazon Digital Video Game Downloads is not currently offering Playstation Network Online Game Codes and Points Cards."
