Outdoor TV Specialist Pantel May be Going Under

Orders aren't being filled, calls aren't being answered, and inside sources say bankruptcy is on the way.

When we think of niche products, outdoor televisions immediately spring to mind. They're unnecessary for most and priced well above their indoor counterparts, but specializing in a niche market isn't a bad idea for a company.

Sadly though, it seems that things aren't working out well for Pantel. The company hasn't been responding to calls or emails since September and one dealer says that his distributor is unable to get TVs that he's ordered.

Company phones are disconnected and even the CEO's number results in a disconnect message. Pantel has not officially filed for bankruptcy as of yet, but these aren't good signs.

What’s a nice summer day without a little TV?

Pantel is the worldwide leader in outdoor, weatherproof TVs. Sure, it’s a bit of a niche market, but it’s still a pretty impressive claim.

Pantel’s primary business is in outdoor televisions, and it’s been doing well. CEO Joe Pantel says the company has had to kick things into high gear in order to keep up with demand. “For the first quarter of 2010, Pantel has had strong sales, especially for its 42 and 52-inch weatherproof TVs. To accommodate this increase in sales, Pantel has expanded its sales team to better service both our domestic and international customers.”

You can pick up an outdoor television in a variety of sizes, but the best value for the money seems to be the 42” model, which sports a 1080p resolution and runs $4,999. You can go as high as 65” but you’ll be stepping up to a $25,999 price tag.

Pantel’s mirror models are made for indoor use, and are designed to look like traditional mirrors when not in use. They run a bit cheaper and a bit smaller. The 42” version is the largest, and runs $4,499.

Though probably not for the average consumer, Pantel’s new M line of TVs will be turning heads this fall.

From the M20 up to the M42, these ultra bright flatscreens are geared towards outdoor use and commercial application.

The specifications for the displays are fairly standard, but the secret to success is in the specialization. Needless to say, these water resistant LCDs are fairly unique. When turned off, they look to all the world like a mirror, but when turned on they produce a picture up to 1080p quality.

Intended as options for bathroom and Jacuzzi TVs, as well as for hotel rooms, and outdoor displays, these Pantel LCDs start at $1,999 for the 20” M20 up to $4,499 for the 42” M42. More information as well as the complete specs are available at PantelTV.com.
