LG Shows Off the Nano Full LED Series
Thu Dec 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM ETTags: LG, Nano Lighting Technology (all tags)
The new lighting technology made its debut at a sneak peek event earlier this week.
LG's latest innovation is something that they're calling Nano Lighting Technology, a tech that they say will help to redefine the LED market.
LG says that Nano Lighting Technology is a step up over even the best traditional LED screen. That's because it uses a proprietary light dispersion pattern placed over a full array of LEDs which creates even lighting across the whole screen.
According to the company, this new method of LED backlighting will create not only a brighter picture, but one that's more uniform across the whole screeen.
The first TVs to use this tech are the LW7700 and the LW9500, both of which offer localized dimming, 3D capability and an even greater range of colors. The 7700 boasts TruMotion 240Hz while the 9500 offers TruMotion 480Hz.
Additional details including pricing and availability will be made available at the Consumer Electronics Show in just a few weeks.

LG Introduces the LEX 8 and Nano Lighting Technology for Ultra-Thin Televisions

LG's newest set measures just 88mm thick, thanks to the new tech.
It seemed as though the race to the thinnest TV was over, but with new technology being added regularly, the race is back on. LG's latest entry is the LEX 8, an absolutely amazing looking set that measures in at just 88mm thick.
It's not just the set that's thin – the bezel has been shrunk down to an amazing 1.25cm thick. That makes it the thinnest bezel for any fully LED backlit television.
Nano Lighting Technology is what enabled LG to create such a thin set and bezel. It's a new tech that uses standard LEDs with a film of tiny dots in front of them, dispersing light more evenly around the screen.
It may not sound like a big deal, but CEO Simon Kang says there's nothing else like it. "LG is continuing to set new standards in TV technology and demonstrating once again that we're pushing the envelope of home entertainment."
Kang compares the technological jump between standard lighting and Nano lighting to the one between standard and high definition. "Just as difficult as it is to watch standard TV after experiencing high definition, people will resist going back to regular LED LCD TVs after viewing the LEX8."
