Corning Lotus Glass Will be Used on Samsung OLED TVs

It's also going to be used on handheld and IT devices.
Corning made a big impact with Gorilla Glass, boasting the strongest glass around which allows for thinner, lighter devices that still take a beating. Their newest creation is a bit different. It's called Lotus Glass, and it aims to give the best picture possible.
Samsung Mobile Display has just announced that it will be teaming up with Corning to put Lotus glass on new mobile products that sport OLED screen. This doesn't translate into immediate use on TVs, but then again, Samsung doesn't have an OLED out at the moment.
Samsung says that the partnership with its mobile division will lead to integration with more devices, including large OLED TVs.

Corning Introduces Lotus Glass for Clearer Pictures

The makers of Gorilla Glass are approaching this one with a softer touch.
You may remember when Corning launched Gorilla Glass and a subsequent ad campaign - the online ads were really hard to miss. The ultra-tough glass was designed to take a beating, making it an excellent choice for when thin but strong glass was needed.
The latest from Corning is something they're calling Lotus Glass. It's not designed with strength in mind, but image quality. It was also created to hold its shape during high-temperature processing which means components will be better integrated into the glass itself.
Since it can handle thermal cycles better than the glass typically used for LCD displays, VP Andrew Filson says that you'll see "tighter design rules in advanced backplanes for higher resolution and faster response time."
Corning says that Lotus Glass was designed for portable devices like smartphones, computers and tablets. Of course, that's what they said about Gorilla Glass and it ended up in Sony's monolithic TVs. We'll see if anyone picks this up for their 2012 displays.
