Adding a new twist to the promotion of a high-def disc format, Magnolia Pictures and Samsung Electronics are teaming up to preview the Blu-ray version of Magnolia's 'The Architect' in select U.S. theaters.

As we've previously reported, the film (an indie feature starring Anthony LaPaglia and Isabella Rossellini and co-produced by Magnolia parent company 2929 Entertainment) is already notable in that it will be released simultaneously in theaters, on DVD, and on Blu-ray and HD DVD on December 5.

To help promote the cross-format release, Magnolia and Samsung will host a series of "One Night Only" preview screenings of 'The Architect' on November 30th at select Landmark Theatres in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Minneapolis and San Diego. Making things more interesting, these first theatrical screenings will be presented on video, using the Blu-ray disc version of the film, and Samsung's consumer Blu-ray player.

According to a joint Magnolia/Samsung press release, the event "will give consumers an opportunity to experience the pristine picture and sound of the Blu-ray format on a full-size theater screen."

In addition, moviegoers that purchase a Samsung Blu-ray player at the screenings will receive an "Indie Five-Pack" of Blu-ray titles from Magnolia Home Entertainment. The pack includes the titles 'The Architect,' 'District B13,' 'Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,' 'Space Shuttle Discovery: Historic Mission' and 'The World’s Fastest Indian.'

If you're interested in checking out any of the screenings, showtime and ticket can be found via the official Landmark Theatres website.

Sony has announced their second Blu-Ray disc title to debut simultaneously with its standard DVD release.

On June 27, the studio will unleash the recent Milla Jovovich action-thriller 'Ultraviolet' in a new Unrated Director's Cut. No supplemental features or disc specs have yet to be released, though the film will be presented in its original 2.35:1 theatrical aspect ratio, and as with all of Sony's current Blu-Ray releases, will be encoded on an BD-50 dual-layer disc at full 1080p video resolution.

The release is the second day-and-date with DVD Blu-Ray release, following 'Underworld: Evolution,' which Sony will debut on June 6.

Sony has priced the disc at its new release MSRP of $38.95. The latest details for 'Ultraviolet' have been added to our comprehensive Blu-Ray Release Schedule.
