BenQ Announces a Trio of Consumer Line Projectors

Running the gamut of pricing and features, BenQ is bringing three new projectors to market.
At the lowest end of the spectrum of projectors announced by BenQ is the W600, which they refer to as the “sensible home entertainer”. Available soon in the UK at around $800 US, the W600 is capable of a 720p picture, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio and not a great deal else.
Stepping up to the W1000, which will sell at around $1,500 US, customers can expect full 1080p as well as more customization of color and picture. The W1000 features a 2,700:1 contrast ratio, and features UNISHAPE technology, which varies the brightness of the projector lamp in sync with the six segment color wheel.
BenQ’s W6000 is their top of the line model at around $4,000 US. It offers 1080/24p video as well as upconversion of standard definition sources. The contrast ratio for the W6000 kicks up to 50,000:1, and true 10-bit processing should ensure an excellent picture. Additional features of the W6000 include horizontal and vertical lens shift, 1.5:1 zoom ratio and the ability to display a 2.35:1 ratio using an optional Panamorph Lens.
BenQ’s new projectors are set to sell in the UK shortly, with no details currently about US releases.

Epson Releases Low Budget HD Projector

Espon, fresh off of the release of several higher end projectors at CEDIA last week, has announced the release of their newest, most economically priceded, HD projector.
With a price of only $749, consumers are going to be giving this Epson projector some serious thought over the holiday season. The Epson Home Cinema 705HD boasts 2,500 lumens of light output, meaning that a dedicated home theater room isn’t as necessary; this projector will function in a wide variety of lighting conditions.
The 705 HD utilizes Epson’s three chip 3LCD technology and an energy efficient E-TORL lamp. Simple enough for the average consumer to set up, the Epson 705 HD does have one drawback: 720p resolution.
While certainly better than standard definition, 720p stretched out over a large area is less than appealing to the discerning HD enthusiast.
Epson’s Home Cinema 705HD will be available in October for an estimated price of $749.

Epson Reveals New Line of Home Projectors

Epson hopes to capture a piece of the market with a new pair of 3LCD projectors.
Home projectors are becoming an affordable alternative for home theater enthusiasts, and Epson wants some of that action. Announcing their new Home Cinema 8100 and 8500 UB projectors yesterday, Epson’s senior product manager Marge Ang said “These new models take advantage of Epson's latest technology to offer consumers the highest-performing 1080p solutions available at their respective price point.”
The Epson Home Cinema 8100, the more value based of the two projectors, features double the contrast ratio of previous models, 36,000:1. The increase in contrast can be attributed to an 1,800 lumen brightness and a new Dynamic Iris system which allows light to be adjusted on a frame by frame basis.
At a higher, but as of yet unannounced, price point, the Home Cinema 8500 UB is the higher end of the two models, and boasts an impressive 200,000:1 maximum contrast ratio. Geared towards the higher end consumer, the 8500 UB takes advantage of Epson’s own UltraBlack technology as well as a dual layered iris.
Using 12-bit 3LCD driver technology and a Silicon Optix HQV Reon-VX processor, the Home Cinema 8500UB will be available in November through authorized Epson dealers.
