It's a slick soundbar, but the $1,000 price makes us think twice.

The YSP-2000 is the latest soundbar from Yamaha, who prefers to call it a Digital Sound Projector. Whatever you call it, the YSP-2000 is an impressive setup.

Yamaha's new soundbar boasts 16 speaker beam drivers, each with its own digital amplifier. The combination of drivers and internal technology allows the YSP-2000 to simulate 7.1 channel surround sound.

The soundbar includes a 100 watt subwoofer that's compact enough for a shelf and can be positioned either horizontally or vertically. You'll get four HDMI 1.4 inputs and a dock port for adding accessories like iPhone docks and Bluetooth receivers.

The YSP-2000 comes in at a price of $999.95.

HDMI 1.4 is on its way and Onkyo is leading the charge.

There’s been a surprisingly small amount of hubbub over HDMI 1.4. The new standard is set to make some significant changes to the way we connect our components. While there is a lot to nay-say about HDMI 1.4, there’s a lot to be excited about too, namely the option to send Ethernet signals over HDMI.

Onkyo announced today that they’ll be supporting HDMI 1.4 in all of their new receivers for 2010. “We are very supportive of the new standard,” said Onkyo’s marketing manager Paul Wasek, “because of the added capabilities and the simplification of system connections.”

HDMI 1.4 has a few different capabilities that 1.3 didn’t, but Onkyo is specifically supporting 3D capabilities and the Audio Return Channel. The return channel simplifies audio connections by allowing audio data to go both down and up stream, eliminating the need for a separate S/PDIF connection.

Panasonic Bringing HDMI 1.4 To The Table

Expected in late August, Panasonic will be shipping HDMI 1.4 cables out to Japanese retailers.

While there isn’t yet a need for the cables, early adopters can get their hands on them at the end of this summer. Prices vary by length from a 1 meter cable running about $42 to a 10 meter cable at over $200.

While certainly the new HDMI standard will bring features formerly unavailable, such as capabilities for 3D content, as well as 4k and 2k resolution support, it’s unnecessary until such technologies hit the mainstream market. A few products this holiday season will accept the new cables, and surely we’ll see plenty at CES. There’s no word yet on plans to bring these cables to the states.
