Pick up the game early and you get early access as well as an in-game item to help you along your way.

If you've been looking forward to the latest installment of 'Guild Wars' but haven't been able to get in on any of the betas, you've still got a chance. Of course, you'll have to preorder the game to get in. Not only are those that preorder the game getting a head starts on those that wait until launch, but they're getting a bit of beta access too.

No matter what edition of 'Guild Wars 2' you pick up, you'll start with a Hero's Band which will have various ways of helping you along your path. For more in-game and physical items, there's the Collector's Edition, which comes in at $149.

For that cash – certainly a lot to drop on one game – you'll get an art book, five art prints, five in-game items, a book about the making of the game, a CD with the game's soundtrack and a 10" statue of Rytlock Brimstone.

'Guild Wars 2' Beta Signups Open for 48 Hours

Tags: Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Beta Tests, MMORPGs, ArenaNet (all tags)

To enter yourself for consideration, hit the site, run DxDiag and enter some basic info.

Want to play a brand new game for free before anyone else? If you said no then there's something horribly wrong with your priorities. If you said yes then you're in luck.

The folks over at ArenaNet are giving fans a chance to sign up for a limited beta of the upcoming 'Guild Wars 2,' which is bound to be a massive release. The signup is simple - you need to run a diagnostic tool so the company knows what kind of system you have and then tell them a little bit about your gaming experience.

Generally, people from all walks of life are given entry to betas, so don't worry if you have a crummy computer or you've never played an MMO before. It's definitely worth a go.

NCsoft is Working on a Console Version of 'Guild Wars 2'

Fri Feb 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, NCSoft, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, MMORPGs (all tags)

The trend of formerly PC exclusive titles making their way to consoles continues with the soon to be released MMORPG.

There are some games that have traditionally been PC only. It's not about exclusivity deals or marketing, but an issue of control schemes. Without a mouse and keyboard, titles like 'Diablo' and 'Command and Conquer' just haven't played well.

As of recently though, big name developers are giving consoles another go. Blizzard has announced that 'Diablo III' will be coming to consoles and now NCsoft says that a console version of 'Guild Wars 2' will be launched. The primary focus, they say, is still on the PC version.

'Guild Wars 2' will not have a monthly fee, which will certainly make it more palatable to the console audience, but it's the control scheme that could make or break the game.

'Guild Wars 2' Coming in 2012, Beta Testing Starts in Spring

Mon Jan 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: ArenaNet, MMORPGs, Guild Wars 2 (all tags)

The company plans to give as many fans as possible the chance to try out the game before launch.

'Guild Wars' was one of those games that seemed to do alright for itself despite coming out in a post 'World of Warcraft' environment. It was different enough to develop its own audience and survive on those merits. A sequel has been talked about for some time now, but it seems 2012 will be the year it hits.

Mike O'Brien, says that this announcement comes on the first day of the Year of the Dragon. "It’s an auspicious omen for all of us at ArenaNet," he says. "According to tradition, the dragon embodies passion, independence, and ambition. We think it’s a perfect analogy for what we’re trying to accomplish with Guild Wars 2."

O'Brien says that in February, press members will be invited to a closed beta test. "In March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate."
