Things are Fixed with Fox, Cablevision and DISH
Tue Nov 02, 2010 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Cablevision, Fox, Dish Network (all tags)
Cablevision bit the bullet – sour grapes abound.
Cablevision customers will be happy to hear that Fox channels are finally back on the air. The company released a statement to explain how it all worked out and it's more than just a little snippy.
"In the absence of any meaningful action from the FCC, Cablevision has agreed to pay Fox an unfair price for multiple channels of its programming including many in which our customers have little or no interest," says the release, which later goes on to say, "In the end, our customers will pay more than they should for Fox programming, but less than they would have if we had accepted the unprecedented rates News Corp. was demanding when they pulled their channels off Cablevision."
Cablevision isn't the only provider with Fox troubles these days, but it sounds like DISH anted up before things got to Cablevision levels. "After prolonged negotiations to reach a fair deal, we're pleased to enter into a long term agreement with Fox and to assure our customers that they can continue to enjoy these channels," explains VP Dave Shull.

NewsCorp Pulls Fox Channels From Cablevision
Wed Oct 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM ETTags: Fox, Cablevision (all tags)
Three million New York households are now without Fox.
This storm's been a-brewin' for some time now and it's finally hitting. The issue is simple - Fox wants money, Cablevision doesn't want to give it to them. Each side has legitimate arguments and concerns, but what's important is how the customers are being affected.
This weekend, Fox pulled stations Fox 5 and My9 from Cablevision. That means that right now there are three million cable customers out there who can't get one of the channels they've been paying for and are missing the shows they want to watch.
According to the scathing press release form Cablevision – definitely worth a read – Fox is also threatening DISH Network with the same tactic. It's difficult to say who's right and who's wrong in the situation since it's a fairly complex issue, but one thing is certain – Fox has created a huge number of angry cable subscribers.

Cablevision Expands West – Acquires Bresnan Communications
Tue Jun 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM ETTags: Cable, Cablevision (all tags)
The New York based cable provider is looking for a foothold in the west.
If you live in the Northeast, chances are you're familiar with Cablevision. It's one of many providers servicing the area, and well, that's the problem. There are a lot of options in places like New York when it comes to television service.
So Cablevision has decided to expand outward, going against what most analysts and stockholders expected. In an effort to get something going outside of its normal area of operations, Cablevision has picked up Bresnan Communications.
Bresnan provides cable and internet to Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming, where it faces little to no competition in most areas.
There's no word yet on just how this will affect current Bresnan customers, but they may be time to start getting used to Cablevision branding.

Verizon Petitions FCC For Access To Broadcasts Of New York Sports Teams
Fri Jul 10, 2009 at 01:30 PM ETTags: Verizon, Cablevision, HD Broadcasting (all tags)
And the New Jersey Devils too!
Let’s say you’re a New York sports fan looking for a way to get your TV. Cable or satellite, it doesn’t matter, it just has to look great on your new set. You live in one of the biggest cities on earth and you’ve got a few options, but there’s only one that has The Rangers, The Islanders, and the Knicks in HD, the others just have standard def broadcasts. That’s pretty much the choice made for you right then and there isn’t it?
As of this date, Cablevision is the only provider in New York with access to high definition broadcasts of games taking place in Madison Square Garden, and they’re not letting anyone else have it for any cost. This is what Verizon’s complaining about in their petition to the FCC. They say that not being able to offer this option has hindered them in such a way that they are unable to sell their service within the city.
According to a press release issued by Verizon earlier today, it was only after a similar petition that Cablevision allowed them standard definition access to the events at MSG.
