DreamWorks has unveiled details of its latest BD-Live feature for the 'Transformers' Blu-ray, a video called "Robot Ninjas" which is launching today.

The vignette showcases the battle seen in the film between Bumblebee and Barricade, and comes from video diary footage and animatics culled by the film's stunt crew.

The BD-Live feature is accessible beginning today via any BD-Live-capable (Profile 2.0) Blu-ray player with internet access.

The studio says a second BD-Live feature, "What Effing Happened to Mason City" will appear in the near future, though details remain TBA.

It is also expected that DreamWorks will use the 'Transformers' Blu-ray to promote the upcoming theatrical sequel, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.' We'll keep you posted.

In a next-gen first, Anchor Bay will offer a downloadable MP3 isolated score and other exclusives via BD-Live on the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Dead Space.'

As first reported last month, the indie will bring the animated spin-off movie 'Dead Space: Downfall' to Blu-ray October 28 (day-and-date with the standard DVD), a week after the PlayStation 3 game it supports hits stores from Electronic Arts.

Anchor Bay has now confirmed final specs for the release, which will see exclusive BD-Live content including a first-ever isolated score available as an MP3 download, as well as additional downloadable animatics.

Previously-announced standard extras include two exclusive cheat codes for the EA game, plus deleted scenes and trailers. A Digital Copy of the film (in standard -def) will also be provided on an extra disc for viewing on PCs and portable video devices (including Mac-compatible formats).

Tech specs boast a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $34.95.

You'll find final specs for 'Dead Space: Downfall' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under October 28.

Warner Planning Winter Launch for BD-Live

Warner is preparing to launch its first BD-Live-enabled Blu-ray titles in time for the Winter holidays, the company revealed at a press event held this past Friday.

During the keynote address at the Entertainment Supply Chain Academy conference, president of Warner Bros. Technical Operations Darcy Antonellis confirmed that the studio's first Blu-ray titles to feature web-enabled interactivity are being readied for release as soon as the end of 2008.

Among the cutting-edge BD-Live interactivite features planned for the as-yet-unnamed titles include real-time viewing, a search engine, library access, and a "recommendation tool" for other titles complete with e-mail reminders.

More standard features also planned include real-time and downloadable content such as picture-in-picture, deleted scenes and trailers, as well as ringtones and wallpapers.

Predicting quicker adoption of web-enabled content versus DVD-ROM features on standard DVD, Antonellis cited videogame adoption and the success of personal networking websites as key to mass consumer acceptance.

"I think it [BD-Live] has the ability to compete [with MySpace and YouTube] for a user's time because you are taking them online and you're able to create a community that we have never been able to do before," she said. 'That's huge for us."

Although the studio declined to confirm any specific titles slated to receive the BD-Live treatment, Antonellis pointed to the upcoming 'The Dark Knight' as a likely candidate, hinting that an online chat activity for the release is being considered.

"These are exclusive opportunities that can be offered through this small community that is created with these [Profile 2.0] players," Antonellis said. "We are no longer limited by finite capacity on the disc."

We'll certainly keep you posted on this story as it develops. Stay tuned!
