Acer Launches a New 3D DLP Projector
Tue Dec 13, 2011 at 02:00 PM ETTags: 3D Projectors, Projectors, Acer (all tags)
The H9500BD utilizes active shutter technology and boasts 2D to 3D conversion.
Acer's H9500BD is a 3D projector that's aimed at home theater enthusiasts and gamers alike. It has a 16:9 native aspect ratio but can be adjusted to 4:3 for Wii games and other content that's not quite up to date.
The active shutter based 3D technology means that in addition to 3D Blu-ray players and game consoles, the H9500BD is capable of hooking up with NVIDIA graphics cards for a 3D PC experience. The projector offers a pair of HDMI ports as well as DVI, VGA, S-video and RCA.
In addition to playing back content that was created in 3D, the H9500BD can convert 2D video to 3D on the fly. It can do pictures too, so if you have some vacation photos to show off you can make them a touch more interesting for your guests.
The H9500BD is available now on Amazon for $1,699.

Acer Launches 3D Ready 720p Projector
Mon Mar 08, 2010 at 11:00 AM ETTags: Acer, 3D, Industry Trends (all tags)
The latest release from Acer offers the potential for a 3D experience and a high def picture, all at a reasonable price.
Projectors are a great way to get that theatrical experience at home. Acer’s H5360 is a great example. It’s a slick projector that does just enough to be useful, but not so much that it’ll break the bank.
The Acer H5360 is a 3D ready projector designed to be used with NVidia’s 3D Vision. It’s got an impressive brightness rating of 2500 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio of 3,000:1. The H5360 has a native 720p resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
It’s got an HDMI input of course, as well as jacks for component, composite and S-video signals and a VGA input. It sports a 3x color wheel design, and aims to recreate colors accurately thanks to Acer’s own ColorBoostII+ technology.
You can pick up the H5360 now for $699.

Acer Debuts 3D Projector
Tue Feb 16, 2010 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Acer, 3D, Industry Trends (all tags)
Acer’s new projector handles 3D, but not much else.
All the new 3D gadgets are starting to roll out, and even the most stalwart 3D hater can’t help but be a little excited at the prospect of new gear. Acer’s newest projector, the S5200, is one of the first home and office projectors built with 3D in mind, but it’s a bit light in its other aspects.
And speaking of aspects, this $1,000 projector sports a 4:3 aspect ratio. It doesn’t get any more impressive as it goes on. The projector’s native resolution is a mere 1024 x 768.
It seems a bit odd to launch a projector with 3D capabilities that offers little else to go with it. Acer’s S5200 boasts compliance with Crestron’s home automation system, a six color wheel and features to improve lamp life and lamp performance.
Without an HD resolution though, it all seems a bit pointless.

Acer’s Twenty-four Inch 3D Display is Available Now
Tue Feb 02, 2010 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Acer, 3D, Industry Trends (all tags)
There’s a new 3D capable LCD on the market for only $399, but it’s not a TV.
If you’re looking for a nice 3D display and you don’t mind sitting at your desk, Acer’s got a 23.6” monitor that’s fully 3D capable for only $399 on sale today. To watch content from your computer, you’ll still need to pick up Nvidia’s 3D Vision kit, but $600 is still a relatively low price of entry for 3D technology.
Not sold on the whole 3D thing? The Acer GD235HZ is still a great monitor for HD movies. Just like a television, Acer’s new creation sports a 1080p resolution. It’s got a 16:9 aspect ratio, rather than the 16:10 ratio found in many widescreen computer monitors. The GD235HZ also sports has an impressive 80,000:1 contrast ratio.
The big news is in speed though. Acer’s new monitor has a ridiculously fast response time of as little as 2ms. It’s also one of few LCD computer monitors that hits the 120Hz mark, which has been a bit of a struggle for the technology.
This isn’t going to replace your living room television by any means, but it’s a nice cheap way to jump into 3D, and an all around nice monitor.

Acer Joins HD DVD Promotional Group
Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 03:22 PM ETTags: Acer (all tags)
Although reports from last week's IFA tradefair appeared to indicate that Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer favored Blu-ray over HD DVD, a new press release puts them squarely in the dual-format camp.
When Acer announced last week that it had joined the Blu-ray Disc Association, it was widely assumed that the world's No. 4 PC vendor was now squarely in the Blu-ray corner.
Today, however, in a just-issued press release, the notebook giant says it has officially joined the HD DVD Promotional Group, as well. The release goes on to remind that Acer is no stranger to the HD DVD camp, having already released a line of HD DVD-enabled notebook PCs here in the US.
"Acer is pleased to join the North American HD DVD Promotional Group to help bring the freshest technology to more consumers worldwide," said Campbell Kan, Vice President, Mobile Computing Business Unit, Acer Inc. "We are confident that our comprehensive HD DVD notebook offers will meet consumers' demand and expectation for true high definition experience. I look forward to further promoting the merit of HD DVD, in close collaboration with the Group."
