'Sleeping Dogs' developer closes after 9 years in business.
Today, United Front Games, the studio behind titles such as 'Modnation Racers' and undoubtedly their biggest hit 'Sleeping Dogs', has closed down today. The studio was in the midst of the early access period for their latest game 'SMASH+GRAB', which has since been removed for purchase from Steam. Following the release of 'Sleeping Dogs' which was a success for the studio, they seemed to be having a great deal of financial difficulty following the cancellation of 'Triad Wars', the multiplayer game set in the 'Sleeping Dogs' universe, and 'SMASH+GRAB' failed to gain much traction.
Though the closure was unclear at first, it has since been made apparent that the studio has indeed been shuttered, with developers from the studio such as producer Jen Timm confirming the closure, stating: "Currently mourning the best job I've ever had, and the most wonderful team I've ever worked with. The end of a great era. Goodbye, UFG."
While the studio had trouble landing much success outside of 'Sleeping Dogs', their games lineup was always interesting and diverse, and it's a shame that they've been shuttered. Here's hoping all affected land on their feet again soon.
