Big moves by Microsoft during Gamescom 2015.
This week is Gamescom 2015, and Microsoft has some big plans. First off, for those in the preview program, 'Gears of War' and 'Shadow Complex' are now available to play as backwards compatible games on the Xbox One. Along with the announcement for 'Gear of War' as a backwards compatible game, comes the news of a big promotion by Microsoft. Those who purchase 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' and play between the release date of August 25th and December 31, 2015, will unlock all four 360 'Gears of War' titles for play on the Xbox One via 360 backwards compatibility. That means 'Gears of War,' 'Gears of War 2,' 'Gears of War 3' and 'Gears of War: Judgment,' all on the Xbox One.
One thing to note about the offer is that while 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' will be released late this month, the full release of 360 backwards compatibility and the four 360 'Gears' titles is not due until sometime in the fall. According to this Gears forum post, the four game collection will be given out as tokens in waves to those who play 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' during the designated time frame. More specific details on how this will work are still to come.
The move is an interesting and attractive one, and those who picked up 'Gears of War 3' recently as a Free Game with Gold title can look forward to playing it on the Xbox One in the future.
