Space shooter will be playable publically for the first time.
Straight out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, comes a new roguelike space shooter for the PC. 'Stellar' is set to for release in 2016, but it's the fusion of a 3D map and 2D dogfighting that has this procedurally generated game riding a pulse into PAX South. Developer Dog Eat Dog Games is also pushing the game's RPG elements, which see the player upgrade their ship through alien tech salvaged from defeated foes.
In essence, what 'Stellar' seeks to do is update the classic shoot 'em up genre with a deeper level of progression that changes each time out. In fact, when it comes to the 2D combat, players can choose between a top-down or side-scrolling view, and enemies will become locked based off of the players choice.
While the concept is promising, the real potential of 'Stellar' ought to be evident come January 23-25 at the first ever PAX South.
