Keep those PS3 sticks in fighting shape.
'Skullgirls Encore' is coming to the PS4 (hopefully this year), and amazingly, the game will support PS3 fightsticks, something that developer Lab Zero feels is pretty important.
Peter Bartholow, CEO of Lab Zero Games, "Lab Zero feels very strongly about this: we think it's better for the consumer and the industry that you be able to spend your hard-earned money buying games instead of buying a new fight stick."
Naturally, the PS3 fightsticks won't have Share button or other PS4 specific controls, but they will be fight worthy. According to Polygon, Bartholow has explained that "Any stick that reads as a Generic USB GamePad or Joystick will work. This covers MadCatz TEs, which are the majority of what the fighting game community uses right now, as well as many other smaller brands and custom options such as the GodLike Controls' Cthulhu boards."
Even more significant, the driver that bridges PS3 sticks to the PS4, is going to made free for any other developers to use. The driver was written by Naughty Dog programmer John "Cowboy" Bellomy in his free time. He made it happen it seems. This ought to mean that all PS4 fighting games should support PS3 sticks, however, any developer who uses the driver needs to send back any changes or additions to the driver code. That puts the ball in court of Capcom, Arc System Works, NetherRealm, etc.
