The next best thing to being there.
Last year, Sony tried a little experiment where they showed their E3 presser at a Fathom Event in a few select theaters around the country. It was apparently a rousing success, because they're doing it up again this year, with a showing of the presser in theaters followed by a special post-show hosted by Geoff Keighley, and a few special Playstation goodies they're currently keeping mum about. Apparently, last year, those goodies included early access to the 'Destiny' alpha and 'Battlefield: Hardline''s multiplayer beta, in case anyone was thinking they might get stiffed with a t-shirt two sizes too small.
The demand was also apparently high enough where tickets--which were, and will still be, free--sold out in about 15 minutes. This year, the number of theaters has been expanded, with Sony promising that at least one theater in every state will be showing the event, including three in Canada, and that there will be a wait list for anyone who wants to just show up at the theater and stand like they're trying out for Project Mayhem.
Tickets will go on sale starting this Wednesday, May 27th, at 9am PST/12 noon EST at https://playstation.com/e3experience. Have your clicking fingers ready. Here's a teaser trailer.
