Tons of gameplay info, DLC plans, and Beta announcements within!
Nintendo held a 33-minute long Direct presentation today entirely focused on multiplayer shooter 'Splatoon' that turned out to be a literal and figurative deep-dive into what to expect from the game in the next few months. The presentation itself is embedded below, and worth a watch to see the slew of gameplay details and the larger world of 'Splatoon' in motion, including some of the best sea-based puns ever written, and that very Professor Utonium-sounding narrator, but possibly the biggest details had to do with Nintendo's multiplayer plans.
Nintendo will be releasing 5 new multiplayer maps post-launch, along with new maps, modes, weapons, and gear dropped sporadically during the summer. Come August, after everybody's gotten comfortable with the game, new multiplayer options will be patched in as well allowing party-based multiplayer, and fully customizable matches. In addition, they detailed that global faction events, called Splatfests, will be a regular thing, with the first major event happening on June 20th, and regular battles allowing you to earn rewards for battling online and earning points for your team. In the most Nintendo move ever, factions are adorably split between whether you prefer cats or dogs. Oh, and did we mention all this DLC will be FREE?
The big announcement, though, is that Nintendo is giving folks a chance to try out 'Splatoon' for themselves in a multiplayer demo on the Nintendo eShop available, oh, RIGHT NOW. The actual multiplayer doesn't open up until tomorrow, but anyone looking to get in on the sweet messy action should get on that post-haste. The full game, of course, will be available on the 29th.
