Developer Currently Working on 'Battlefront'.
EA has announced in an interview with Gamespot that Criterion's untitled extreme sports title, announced at E3 two years ago, has been cancelled. The game, unofficially referred to as 'Beyond Cars', was set to be an ambitious open-world title where players could pilot just about any kind of vehicle. Instead of working on the new title, Criterion will be assisting with development of 'Star Wars' titles, including the recently announced 'Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission' for PSVR.
EA says that the studio will continue to develop its own IP as well as assisting other internal EA studios, but nonetheless, it's a shame to see an ambitious idea get cancelled. Here's hoping Criterion's upcoming games remain excellent.
