Who better to revitalize 'Disney Infinity' than the red-hot 'Guardians of the Galaxy?'
If 'Disney Infinity' is good for just one thing, it's turning out a Marvel-themed video game in no time at all. Hot off the major box office success of 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' Disney is using the newly popular circumstantial heroes as a launching point for 'Disney Infinity 2.0' alongside the likes of Spider-Man and The Avengers. Xbox Wire just posted up a detailed preview of the playset to launch on Sept. 23.
A couple of features stand out. Each Guardian, for which there is a matching figurine, of course, also has an upgrade tree installed within. That's brand new to Disney's toys-to-life franchise, which previously relied on a fairly static ranking to display player growth. They also made mention of a power disc, those flat little pieces you place under you character, which actually spawned an NPC Yondu, Michael Rooker's blue-painted, homing arrow-weilding alien, to fight alongside you for a short period of time. He can be respawned at the will of a timer.
Rocket Racoon and Groot, partners in altruistic crime, can combine in some way in-game for a kind of power move, but that's only been teased. Drax can scale buildings much in the same way as Hulk effectively rock-climbs flat surfaces, while Gamora slices as a melee-focused combatant and Star-Lord does his rocket-boot, pistol thing. Most importantly, Cosmo the Dog sneaks in as one of the many mission givers common to the 'Disney Infinity' format.
Check the sourced link below for the full rundown, and brace yourselves for marketing speak. The whole shebang releases Sept. 23 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, PC and iOS.
