Several older smart TVs and mobile devices will no longer be able to run the official YouTube app.
YouTube has announced plans to stop its app support for several smart TVs and devices made in 2012 or earlier. The termination is a necessary step in the company's current upgrade to the YouTube Data API.
Products that will no longer support the YouTube app after April 2015 include 2012 or earlier Sony and Panasonic smart TVs and Blu-ray players, second generation Apple TVs, gadgets with iOS 6 or earlier, and devices running Google TV versions 1 or 2. Users with some of these devices might be able to continue using YouTube through their products' integrated web browsers, as long as they support flash and/or HTML5.
Outside of these select models, the official YouTube app will continue to be supported by most 2013 or newer smart TVs, streaming players, mobile devices, and game consoles.
