Microsoft offering a free game for use during the RMA period.
The percentage of Xbox One owners affected by faulty disc drives not yet known, but according to user reports, Microsoft is offering those customers affected specifically by disc drive issues one of four free games to play during the RMA period.
While other Xbox One replacement issues don't illicit the free game offer, those willing to RMA their faulty disc drive models are being offered one of the following four titles, 'Dead Rising 3,' 'Forza 5,' 'RYSE: Son of Rome,' and 'Zoo Tycoon.' In a statement obtained by Polygon Microsoft has explained the reasoning behind this free game offer, "While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."
Since the free title is digital, it can be played in spite of the disc drive issue.
