High-def fans won't be able to have the full 'Grindhouse' experience, but retailers have been alerted that the Weinstein Co. is planning to release stand-alone versions of 'Death Proof' and 'Planet Terror' on Blu-ray this December.
Originally released in theaters as 'Grindhouse,' a double bill featuring Robert Rodiguez's 'Planet Terror' and Quentin Tarantino's 'Death Proof,' the two films were subsequently separated and issued in stand-alone versions only for their domestic DVD releases.
According to early retailer reports, the Weinsteins will now repeat the same formula on Blu-ray, with both titles due to hit stores separately on December 16.
There's no word yet on tech specs, version details, or whether any of the extra 'Grindhouse' materials (including a series of "fake" trailers shown between the two features) will be included. As always, we'll keep you posted.
Suggested retail prices for the Blu-rays have been set at $29.98 a pop.
You'll find preliminary specs for 'Planet Terror' and 'Death Proof' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under December 16.
