In its latest round of combo demotions, Universal will re-issue 'Dazed & Confused' and 'Land of the Dead' as stand-alone HD DVD releases this March.
Universal first released both titles back in 2006 as HD DVD/DVD combos, with a $34.95 price tag. The studio is now discontinuing those versions, and re-issuing both titles as $29.98 HD DVD-only versions on March 11, 2008.
Unfortunately, 'Dazed & Confused' and 'Land of the Dead' will lose most of their bonus features in the conversion. The combo versions of both titles featured the majority of supplements on only the DVD side of the discs, and since Universal will not be re-encoding the stand-alone versions but simply dropping the DVD side, that means the extras will be zapped in the process.
The studio has confirmed that 'Dazed & Confused' will now sport not a single special feature, while 'Land of the Dead' will retain only the screen-specific audio commentary with George Romero, producer Peter Grunwald and editor Michael Doherty.
Tech specs remain the same, with each an HD-15 single-layer disc featuring 1080p/VC-1 transfers and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround audio.
We've added listings for the two re-issues to our HD DVD Schedule, where they are indexed under March 11, 2008.
