Second screen brings both a co-op and mobile experience to the AAA franchise.
Ubisoft has dropped some more details on 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag,' and this time it is the upcoming iOS and Android companion app that is the focus.
"The philosophy behind the companion app is that it’s an extension of the game and a comfort tool. Comfort in the sense that you can have the world map out and it’s directly connected to the game, so it’s not just a static map. It’s actually updating live with what’s happening in your world."
The ability to tag parts of the map in the app and then follow those markers is described as a great way to add a second player or "first mate" to the game. The app is also described as a prime means for digging into the game's lore and collectibles without having to dig through menus on the big screen. The game's treasure maps are also described as perfect for the app.
In addition, with 'Assassin's Creed IV' featuring the ability to build a fleet which can be deployed on missions, the companion app offers the ability to offer those deployed ships auxiliary support through a combat and looting mini-game. Further details on the mini-game are still to come.
