Many series' fans are not impressed with the new game's similarities.
Not long after the Wii U was released, Nintendo public admitted to having a problem, there was no console 'Legend of Zelda' coming anytime soon. As a result of the absence of one of Nintendo's most popular and enduring franchises, the big N decided to take some steps to tide fans over between the Wii's 'The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword' and a proper Wii U installment.
In series of simultaneous moves, Nintendo, immediately opened up a Miiverse section for fans to discuss 'The Legend of Zelda' in lieu of a game-specific area. Nintendo also announced that the Wii U would be receiving an HD remake of 'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.' 'The Wind Waker HD' will technically be the first HD 'Legend of Zelda' game, which is less surprising when considering that the Wii U is the first HD Nintendo system. But even in previous platforms and eras, while Nintendo has frequently offered ports of various Zelda games, Nintendo has stayed away from remakes.
The lone exception of this twenty plus year trend of Zelda games without remakes, was 'The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures,' a game born from the GBA port of 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.' Now of course, Nintendo is bringing 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds' to the 3DS.
Nintendo has specifically stated that 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds' is a sequel to 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past' and takes place in the same world. Footage of the game shows the new game is walking a fine line, and while the art style is now 3D in nature, the game begs the question, "Is 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds' more of a remake than sequel?"
A new video showing the two games side-by-side in unlikely to settle the matter, but it is clear, especially after some of Nintendo's recent comments, that not everyone is impressed by the new game, and don't feel that it is distinct enough from its SNES era ancestor.
