As other markets continue to wait, Japan will have TVii for its Wii U launch.
Previously, Nintendo had stood mute on the subject of TVii for Japan. The feature will be made available with TV guide data from Rovi's G-Guide service, according to Engadget.
In a related wrinkle, the IR functionality already present in North America GamePads will be available in Japan as part of a paid app. The app will be on the eShop for a 100 yen ($1.21).
The TVii has been marketed as tying together several content types, such as the streaming services available on the Wii U with cable offerings and DVR functionality (e.g. in conjunction with a TiVo box), granting users a new interface with related GamePad screen control and content.
