You can bet the Spider-Man franchise is looking really good to Disney right about now.
After another quarter full of disappointing sales it wouldn't be a surprise to see a big change occur at Sony. Companies in the kind of shape Sony is in often shift their focus, restructure their organization or, more excitingly, sell off their assets.
Rumor has it that Sony will be selling off its film division to help keep the company going. That's a huge piece of Sony and would definitely be a hot commodity, especially for the acquisition-happy Disney which could then add in Spider-Man to the next Avengers film.
Sony president Kaz Hirai says that there is no sale planned and that the company hasn't even considered it. "Sony is comprised of electronics, entertainment and financial services businesses," says Hirai, "and our entertainment companies have a stable business foundation and are poised for future growth."
