UPDATE (06/12/08) - Since the original posting of this story, Sony has removed the Blu-ray version of 'The Band's Visit' from their release schedule. The DVD release remains unaffected. The studio has informed us that a new date for the Blu-ray of 'The Band's Visit' will be announced shortly.
Sony Pictures has announced a late-July Blu-ray bow for the culture clash comedy 'The Band's Visit.'
The comedic tale of a band comprised of members of the Egyptian police force who, after heading to Israel to play a concert, find themselves lost in the wrong town, 'The Band's Visit' earned strong critical notices and a cult audience during its brief Stateside run earlier this year.
Sony will debut the Blu-ray on July 29, day-and-date with the standard DVD.
There are no supplement details released as of yet, but tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.78:1) and the film's native Hebrew Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround. We'll keep you posted as soon as full details are confirmed.
Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $38.95.
You'll find preliminary specs for 'The Band's Visit' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under July 29.
