Sega acquiring 'Shin Megami Tensei,' 'Persona,' and Etrian Odyssey,' among others.

Sega Sammy Corporation is set to acquire Index Corporation. The move means that publisher and game developer, Atlus, which was founded in 1986 will become part of Sega.

The acquisition is set for November, at which point, Altus will become Sega Dream Corporation, a subsidiary of Sega Corporation. Atlus is best known for developing games in the 'Shin Megami Tensei' series, including the popular 'Persona' spin-off. For North America gamers, Atlus' role in publishing games such as 'Demon's Souls' and 'Dragon's Crown' was instrumental, without which, many games might never have been localized or released in North America.

Hopefully, after the Sega acquisition, the spirit of Atlus will live on, but time will tell.
