Earnings call transcript has 'GTA V' bundled in with several other big autumn PC releases.
Even with details dropping daily for new consoles, the likely biggest release of the year, 'Grand Theft Auto V,' is only set for two platforms, the Xbox 360 and PS3. What's worse, the PC platform, home of six major previous 'GTA' titles has yet to be officially revealed as a future host of 'GTA V.' Based on prior releases, plus a natural concern over PC platform issues, including piracy and bugs, anything from one month to one year delay for a still announced PC version of 'GTA V' makes sense. And yet, if one sentence taken from a recent Nvida earnings call is to be believed, 'GTA V' will be on PCs sooner rather than later.
In order to grasp the 'GTA V' snippet, the full paragraph from which it is found is worth a read (the entire call is availed at Seeking Alpha.) Chris Evenden, Senior Director of Investor Relations at Nvidia, "The PC market is evolving. As entry level laptops face pressure from tablets. Yet sales of specialty PCs like gaming systems and work stations continue to grow. The disparity reflects how consumers use these different classes of PCs. Many consumers look for PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, email, social media video. But much of this can be better served by a tablet. In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed IV."
Major releases of a much smaller scale than 'GTA V' come to Nvidia'a attention in order to get new driver releases to include game-specific performance tweaks, and thereby it entirely reasonable that Nvidia would know Rockstar's plans for an upcoming PC release of 'GTA V.' For now though, this "leak" has little to offer but hope for those PC gamers ready to tackle 'GTA V.'
