The first recipient of the Academy's Best Picture is getting the high-definition treatment next year!
In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount is readying 'Wings (1927)' for Blu-ray on January 24.
William A. Wellman's war classic stars Clara Bow, Charles 'Buddy' Rogers and Richard Arlen also picked up an Oscar for Best Effects/Engineering Effects).
The film has been restored using advanced digital techniques and a damaged duplicate negative from the Paramount archives (the original print is lost) and the original paper score was procured from the Library of Congress and rerecorded by a full orchestra.
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio (with the newly-restored musical score by J.S. Zamecnik) as well as 2.0 Dolby Digital (with organ score by Garlord Carter) and all supplements will be new including: Wings: Grandeur in the Sky, Restoring the Power and Beauty of Wings, and Dogfight!
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.99.
