Square says we can expect a version of the game optimized for the console. Though FFIII has been out for a while on the DS, this will be the first time the game is being released for a non-handheld console in the U.S.
Let’s get it out of the way right up front – when we talk about ‘Final Fantasy III,’ we mean the Japanese game that didn’t come out in the states until just a few years ago. Instead of getting each game in order we jumped from the first to the fourth and then to the sixth.
Now that that’s all cleared up, it’s been announced that the ‘Final Fantasy III’ remake that Square did for the DS is going to be a launch game for the new Ouya console. That’s the first really big title that’s been announced, and it’s a bit of a first since the title hasn’t been released on a home console as of yet.
There’s a lot of interest in the Ouya, with over 41,000 units already preordered on Kickstarter, but the real mystery is just how well the system will d once it launches. The addition of ‘Final Fantasy III’ may add some appeal, but they’ll certainly need more if they hope to attract the hardcore crowd.
