All staff laid off and projects cancelled.
Disney has closed longtime game developer LucasArts, cancelled all projects and laid off the entire staff.
Among the cancelled projects include 'Star Wars 1313' and 'Star Wars: First Assault.'
Naturally, Disney retains the ability to license out properties including 'Star Wars' to other game developers and publishers, but is currently expected to have 'Star Wars' titles on hiatus to direct focus on their new film trilogy. Even then, it may only be mobile and causal games that are greenlit. For now, it seems like 'Star Wars' and any other LucasArts property is off the table where it concerns video games.
At least one company, Sony Santa Monica, is reaching out to hire some of the employees that Disney just laid off.
The closure follows months of signals detailed here. p>
Developers close nearly every day, but few have lasted as long as LucasArts. Some of those great games are detailed here.
