LG has once again slashed the price of its 55-inch OLED display.
After already cutting the price just a few weeks ago, LG is offering another price reduction for its 55EA9800. The OLED TV will now retail for $3,999, a whopping 73 percent off of its original price. The television made its debut in July 2013 at $15,000, and has received several price adjustments over the last year.
The 55EA9800 uses a 1080p OLED (organic light-emitting diode) curved-screen panel which offers superior contrast and black levels over traditional LCD technology. The set also features 3D capabilities, LG's proprietary WRGB four-color pixel system, THX certified picture, and Smart TV functions. Finally, the display comes complete with four 3D glasses and is ENERGY STAR certified. In addition to the curved-screen model, LG is also selling the 55EA8800 flat-screen OLED which has received a similar price drop from $5,499 to $4,499.
Though OLED support is dwindling from other companies due to high manufacturing costs, LG has continued to pledge support for the technology, promising several new displays in 2014. With that said, pricing and availability for the proposed 2014 models remain unknown.
