The farther we get from the holiday season, the less interest consumers have in going 3D.
The NPD Group's latest report on 3D televisions and the consumer demand surrounding them points to a decided lack of interest in switching over to the new format. The NPD says that in their recent survey, fewer consumers said they were interested in switching to 3D than in October of last year.
Price is still a concern of course, but there's also the question of just how much of an issue multiple 3D formats are for customers. Most folks aren't going to be excited about a new format war, and between active, passive and glasses-free 3D it seems that many would rather wait until the dust settles.
3D gaming is on the rise, and Nintendo's 3DS certainly had something to do with that. Awareness is up to 13 percent from five percent and the low priced glasses-free experience is certainly an attractive opportunity for folks wanting to get in on 3D at a low price. When 3D capable smartphones hit the market next year, it's likely we'll see the same sort of interest.
