(Update) One workaround found.
'Grand Theft Auto Online,' the online component of 'Grand Theft Auto V' launched this morning on both the 360 and PS3 platforms, but as with many large scale online launches, the launch has been plagued by issues.
Here is a brief summary of the issues that Rockstar is currently aware of:
Occasional "Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable" error message
Freezing sometimes while loading into first race in GTAO with "waiting for other players" on the screen
Intermittent "Failed to Host a GTA Online Session" error messages
Race Corona (start area, marker) occasionally not showing up for first race
Errors saying "Timed out when matchmaking for a compatible GTA Online Session to join"
General issues with the Social Club site and Social Club features
For players, getting online means downloading a small patch, choosing online via the in-game character selector (or clicking online during the game's initial load window), and creating their online character.
The character creator is built around picking the grandparents of the online character, with some other available tweaking options such as gender. For the father, players can swap in John Martson from 'Red Dead Redemption.'
For the moment it seems that the even players who can get online and get in-game, there is an issue with the first race. In all likelihood, it will take some time for the game to offer a stable online experience.
For the workaround:
Here's a workaround that should at least get you online... in an offline way.
- Pause the game before trying to go Online
- Choose Online
- Scroll down to the bottom and choose solo session or even Invite OnlineI was able to get a character in the in the game, complete jobs and rank up. I could not take part in a survival challenge. Not telling if the progress will save, but I did earn a trophy. Gameplay included message, 'Rockstar Cloudservers are down, only disc content available, and saving is disabled.'
