Sony Electronics today launched the first firmware upgrade for its BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player, adding enhanced BD-Java functionality and increased BD-ROM support.
Sony posted a download of the upgrade, dubbed Version 1.50, to its official support site earlier this afternoon.
According to Sony, this upgrade includes the following:
• Improved BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
• Enhanced playback compatibility with certain BD-ROM format discs.
• Corrected output signal status information for audio output and display
when Linear PCM 5.1 channel soundtracks are played back via HDMI.
Sony has also sent an email alert to all registered owners of the BDP-S1, indicating that those not wishing to download the upgrade to their PCs and burn their own DVD-Rs will be sent the firmware upgrade on disc via postal mail sometime within the next three weeks.
