Fox has confirmed final specs for the 1951 classic 'The Day the Earth Stood Still,' which will arrive on Blu-ray this December with hours of bonus features and all-new exclusive content.
As previously reported, Fox will release Robert Wise's seminal sci-fi masterwork on Blu-ray December 2, timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the upcoming big-budget remake starring Keanu Reeves.
Now full specs are in, which will see the 92-minute feature presented on a BD-25 single-layer disc in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.33:1) with English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround.
Extras will see an avalanche of material culled from the previous special edition DVD release, including a pair of audio Commentaries (with Robert Wise and Nicolas Meyer, and historians John Morgan, Steven Smith, William Stromberg and Nick Redman), an isolated score track, "The Making of The Day the Earth Stood Still" documentary, four additional featurettes ("Decoding 'Klaatu, Barada, Nikto': Science Fiction as Metaphor," "A Brief History of Flying Saucers," "The Astounding Harry Bates," "Edmund North: The Man Who Made the Earth Stand Still") the "Race To Oblivion: A Documentary Short" by Edmund North, the "Farewell To The Master" original Harry Bates short story, seven still galleries ("Advertising Gallery," "Behind-The Scenes Gallery," "Portrait Gallery," "Production Gallery," "Spaceship Construction Blueprints," "Shooting Script," " Interactive Pressbook"), a "The Day The Earth Stood Still Main Title Live Performance" by Peter Pringle, a vintage Fox Movietone newsreel, and the original theatrical trailer.
Exclusive to the Blu-ray is the "Interactive Thermin: Create Your Own Score" function, and the "Gort Command" interactive game.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $34.95.
