Disney has dropped its latest tantalizing preview of the extras on its upcoming Blu-ray of 'Sleeping Beauty,' which promises to hit high-def with the most extensive BD-Live features yet seen on the format.
As previously reported, the studio has been touting 'Sleeping Beauty' as the kick-off high-def title in its Platinum Edition series, setting a street date of October 7 for the Blu-ray (the same day as a new standard-def re-issue).
Further sneak peeking the features on the trend-setting disc, Disney President Bob Chapek told USA Today that 'Sleeping Beauty' "will revolutionize the way people will interact with and view movies in the home. We pulled out all the stops in launching this technology."
Among the cutting-edge BD-Live and BD-Java-enhanced extras on 'Sleeping Beauty,' viewers will be able to chat with friends right on the screen during playback (using a laptop, BlackBerry, or other PDA) through Disney's protected network. They'll also be able to insert customized video messages anywhere in the movie and send them to friends or family members via a "movie mail" feature.
Other activities on the disc include the option to play trivia games with fellow viewers across the country, plus access to a constant supply of new trailers. Accessing content will allow users to trade in "reward" points collected by using many of these features, for ringtones and wallpaper.
As previously announced, Disney has set a suggested retail price of $34.98 for the Blu-ray.
