Combination Union Jack bikini/bloody torso figurine not considered just cheeky.
Developer Deep Silver announced today that the sequel to 2011's 'Dead Island,' 'Dead Island Riptide' would have a special edition in the UK and Australia that included "content that may cause offence."
The 'Zombie Bait Edition' includes a Steelbook case, Weapon Pack DLC, and collector's artwork in addition to the game itself. The offending inclusion, however, is the 12" figure of a bloody torso. The headless, armless and bottomless torso is meant on some level to evoke Greco-Roman sculpture, but by highlighting the Union Jack bound chest amidst the gorefully emaciated skin, the offence caused seems to be beyond what is disclaimed in the warning text.
From Deep Silver, "We wanted to provide a unique collector's edition that was utterly Dead Island and would make a striking conversation piece on any discerning zombie gamer's mantel."
Considering the near-instant negative reaction (spanning the internet) to the figurine, it's production may be in doubt, as its future as a lightning rod for everything backwards in video game marketing (only video games, no other industry markets sex and violence) becomes more clear.
