This may or may not come as much of a surprise, but Netflix wants to keep getting bigger.
Hard to believe, but Netflix is still on the rise, and despite recent PR and tactical disasters, the people in charge are trying to make sure it stays that way. After branching out to Latin America, they've decided to expand overseas to the UK and Ireland. It's a big move, which is what Netflix seems to be really into these days, but if successful it could pay huge dividends. The UK launch is expected in early 2012.
In addition to announcing this new expansion, the company has hired on a new executive in charge of original content acquisition. The new exec - Peter Friedlander, formerly of Playtone - will be focusing his efforts on shows produced exclusively for Netflix.
We already know that Netflix is going to be the only place to check out 'House of Cards,' but they're making plays for new episodes of 'Reno 911!' and of course 'Arrested Development' as well. Whether this change in focus works or not could have a huge influence on the future of the company, and will definitely affect the way that Netflix is seen in the eyes of consumers.
