Although reports from last week's IFA tradefair appeared to indicate that Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer favored Blu-ray over HD DVD, a new press release puts them squarely in the dual-format camp.

When Acer announced last week that it had joined the Blu-ray Disc Association, it was widely assumed that the world's No. 4 PC vendor was now squarely in the Blu-ray corner.

Today, however, in a just-issued press release, the notebook giant says it has officially joined the HD DVD Promotional Group, as well. The release goes on to remind that Acer is no stranger to the HD DVD camp, having already released a line of HD DVD-enabled notebook PCs here in the US.

"Acer is pleased to join the North American HD DVD Promotional Group to help bring the freshest technology to more consumers worldwide," said Campbell Kan, Vice President, Mobile Computing Business Unit, Acer Inc. "We are confident that our comprehensive HD DVD notebook offers will meet consumers' demand and expectation for true high definition experience. I look forward to further promoting the merit of HD DVD, in close collaboration with the Group."
