'The Divide' Bound for Blu-ray
Wed Feb 08, 2012 at 09:00 AM ETTags: Starz/Anchor Bay, Disc Announcements (all tags)
The acclaimed post-apocalyptic thriller is gunning for Blu-ray in April.
In an early announcement to retailers, Starz/Anchor Bay is prepping 'The Divide' for Blu-ray on March 27.
Starring Lauren German ('Hostel: Part II,' 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre') Michael Biehn ('Tombstone,' 'The Abyss,' 'The Terminator'), Milo Ventimiglia (“Heroes,” 'Rocky Balboa'), Courtney B. Vance ('The Hunt for Red October,' 'Final Destination 5'), Iván González ('Rich Kids'), Michael Eklund ('Watchmen,' '88 Minutes'), Ashton Holmes (“Revenge,” 'A History of Violence') and Rosanna Arquette ('Pulp Fiction,' 'The Whole Nine Yards'), the Anchor Bay Films release generated massive buzz at last year’s SXSW Festival and placed second at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival for Best Feature Film.
A sudden nuclear attack forces nine strangers into a small, decrepit apartment building basement for shelter. Trapped for days underground with no hope of rescue, and unknown horrors awaiting them outside, the group begins to descend into madness, acting out vicious bouts of psychological and physical torture upon one another. As supplies dwindle, tensions flare, and they grow increasingly deranged, each digresses into a volatile and primal state of being. As everyone in the bunker gradually sheds the humanity they once held, even the thinnest chance of escape holds no promise of salvation on the outside.
Eight Rooks from Twitch named The Divide “far and away one of the highlights of the year,” and David Voigt from The Examiner gave it “4 out of 5 stars! A tense, claustrophic and stunning thriller.” Arrow in the Head’s John Fallon declared the film “a lean, mean and nasty little masterpiece,” while AICN Horror’s Mark L. Miller called it “truly harrowing.”
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include audio commentary with director Xavier Gens, and actors Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia and Michael Eklund and theatrical trailer.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.99.

New Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai Says Sony Could be in "Serious Trouble"
Tue Feb 07, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Sony, PlayStation 3 (all tags)
He'll be putting plans in place to turn the company around, but he definitely understands what the short-term future will look like.
Last week, Sony announced a new president and CEO - Kaz Hirai. Though he says that the company could be in "serious trouble," Hirai has big plans to turn Sony around.
For starters, he'll be strengthening the company's core businesses - digital imaging and gaming. Next up comes the challenge of turning around the TV business. He'll be considering collaborations with other companies and pushing Crystal LED and OLED technologies forward.
Gamers will certainly be familiar with the former SCEA/SCEI president from, among other things, his E3 reveal of the PlayStation 3 which turned phrases like "five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars," "giant enemy crab," and "Ridge Racer!" into internet sensations.
Though the PS3's initial launch was a disaster, Kaz quickly turned things around and made the PlayStation 3 into a relevant console that competes head-to-head with the Xbox for sales. Here's hoping he can do that with the rest of Sony.

'Microsoft Flight' Launches for Free on February 29th
Tue Feb 07, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: DLC, Microsoft Flight, Flight Simulator, Free to Play (all tags)
The first pieces of DLC - the Hawaiian Adventure Pack and new planes - will be available on the same day. And it's surprisingly expensive.
It's been six years since the release of 'Microsoft Flight Simulator X' and flight sim fans have been craving something new. Microsoft is giving you the Flight Sim experience in their new title 'Microsoft Flight.' Even better, they're giving it to you free.
Also coming February 29th will be the first DLC for the game. First up is the Hawaiian Adventure Pack, which gives you 20 new missions, access to the Hawaiian islands that aren't included in the free version of the game and a new plane. The Hawaiian Adventure Pack will run you $20.
The pricing gets a little crazy with the cost of new planes. You'll be shelling out $8 for a regular version of a new plane or $15 for the deluxe version.
You'll be able to download the game directly from Microsoft when it launches at the very end of February.

Axiom Audio Intros the VP160 Center Channel Speaker
Tue Feb 07, 2012 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Speakers (all tags)
You'll find 6.5" woofers, a 5.25" mid, and a 1" titanium tweeter.
The folks at Axiom Audio felt they needed to make a center channel that could match up with their M60 tower speakers and created the VP160 for just that purpose.
The VP160 features a pair of 6.5" woofers, a 5.25" mid-woofer and a 1" tweeter - the same lineup as the M60 tower. Since the drivers are the same, there's no disparity between the center channel and floorstanding speakers, giving you a nice even sound.
Axiom's center channel is definitely not ready to be hung on a wall, coming in at 43 pounds. It's made to be put on a dedicated shelf or a stand the company sells separately.
You can pick up the VP160 now at a price of $570.

Apple Removes 59 Clone Games from the App Store
Tue Feb 07, 2012 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Apple, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Shovelware (all tags)
Games made to confuse users into buying them are starting to get booted - it's a nice start for eliminating needless clutter. Now if only we'd see this on major consoles.
Copycat products are nothing new. When 'Transformers' came out in theaters, for example, the movie 'Transmorphers' was released on DVD. For every pet or baby game on the Nintendo DS there are at least a few cheaper versions of the same game. Where it's worst though, is on the iPhone.
Developer Anton Sinelnikov had 68 games on the App Store and is now left with nine. A whopping 59 of those games were clones of other games, created to trick users into buying them. Even the names were tricky. To profit off of the game 'Plants vs. Zombies,' for example, he created a game called 'Plant vs. Zombie.' A customer not up on their videogame literacy might not know the difference.
"This was really upsetting to us and damaging to our brand," says Natalia Luckyanova of Imangi. If you're not familiar, Imangi is the company behind the popular 'Temple Run,' which was ripped off in a title called 'Temple Jump.' She says that there's much more at stake here than just lost sales. "We work really hard to put out very high quality polished games and win the love of our fans, and we don't want them to think that we would put out crap to steal a dollar from them."
This incident prompted swift movement from Apple which is certainly a positive precedent for game developers. If only the Xbox Live Indie Games were as policed as this, people may actually be able to find games worth playing.
