Videogame Releases: Week of September 8th, 2013

This week, an HD version of ‘Kingdom Hearts’ reintroduces the long-adored series to a new generation of gamers. That’s just one of the new videogame releases sure to please PlayStation fans.

Puppeteer (PS3)

Despite being a 2.5D platformer with a similar art style, ‘Puppeteer‘ is not ‘Little Big Planet’. However, word has it that the game emphasizes inventive visuals over inventive gameplay. A value price helps to sell this one. I plan to find out for myself just how memorable the game will turn out to be.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (PS3)

The original Square Enix / Disney collaboration, the first ‘Kingdom Hearts’ has finally been remade as ‘Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX‘.

Both fans and newcomers to the ‘Kingdom Hearts’ series have awaited an HD re-release of the very first game, and Square Enix is now ready to deliver. The PS2 title, which combines elements of ‘Final Fantasy’ with Disney characters in an action role-playing game, is widely popular in Japan and has a large cult following around the world, which has led to several sequels.

‘Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX’ is no mere HD re-release, however. It adds elements from other games into the series. Originally a Game Boy Advance title, ‘Chain of Memories’ was remade into a PS2 title, ‘Kingdom Hearts: Re: Chain of Memories’, and is a direct sequel to the first game. ‘ReMIX’ includes HD and trophy-enabled versions of both ‘Kingdom Hearts’ and ‘Chain of Memories’ with added content for from the once-exclusive ‘Kingdom Hearts Final Mix’. In addition, HD cut-scenes from the DS title ‘Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days’ are included in this new PS3 title.

NHL 14 (360, PS3)

NHL 14‘ arrives this year with a feature list built from other EA Sports titles. The game’s new physics engine has been modeled after ‘FIFA’, and the new enforcer engine (dropping-the-gloves fighting) has been lifted from ‘Fight Night’. ‘NHL’ won’t make the jump to the next-gen systems this year.

Killzone Mercenary (PS Vita)

Apparently, ‘Killzone Mercenary‘ is the First Person Shooter that Sony promised when the PS Vita was introduced. This makes me very curious to see if it can live up to the hype. If you like shooters at all and have a PS Vita, why not check it out?

      • Never played any ‘Kingdom Hearts’, so no opinion. No, wait, I did play some levels of ‘Chain of Memories’ on the GameBoy Advance. Gorgeous graphics, but underwhelming gameplay. May have to give it another shot. It didn’t do much for me.
