Videogame Releases: Week of May 15th, 2011

It’s not a bad week for videogames. The long-awaited ‘L.A. Noire’ is out, as well as the sequel to one of the surprise hits of 2007. PC gamers also get their hands on the latest in the ‘Fable’ franchise.

L.A. Noire (360, PS3)

The folks over at Rockstar know what they’re doing. They’ve made well-reviewed hit after well-reviewed hit for years, and haven’t made a straight-out bad game since ‘State of Emergency’ back in 2002. ‘L.A. Noire’ is bound to be successful. From the look of things, it will be garnering plenty of praise from the critics as well. It’s a significant step away from the predictable nature of ‘Grand Theft Auto’ that pays homage to the detective films of the ’40s and ’50s.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (PC)

‘The Witcher’ is one of the most underappreciated games of the last few years. Developed by a then-unknown Polish publisher, ‘The Witcher’ surprised fans and critics alike by being not only a very enjoyable but surprisingly deep role-playing experience. The sequel doesn’t have the benefit of being underestimated, but with a completely new game engine, a new combat system and a deep new story, it may not need it.

Fable III (PC)

PC gamers remember fondly the days when Peter Molyneux was a secret only they knew. The good old days of ‘Dungeon Keeper’ and the decent-but-flawed old days of ‘Black and White’ are a sort of special time for PC fans. These days, they get games like ‘Fable III’ half a year after the console release. Ouch.

Is L.A. Noire really only available at Walmart? If so, I may have to wait. I hate giving Walmart my money, regardless of what I am purchasing.

  2. LA Noire is amazing and a must play IMO, guaranteed you’ve never played anything like this before, watching the facial animations never gets tiring as its like watching the real thing, best motion capture ever for a game and its almost creepy, the rest of the game is great too, all the elements fit together really nice…cant give it enough praise
