Videogame Releases: Week of June 15th, 2014

Following E3, the stream of actual videogame releases (as opposed to teasers and announcements) continues to be slow. Nevertheless, EA launches its next huge franchise for the new consoles.

UFC (Xbox One, PS4)

Not only did Electronic Arts pluck the UFC license from the dead carcass of THQ, but the publisher also wrangled the likeness of cultural icon Bruce Lee for EA Sports’ ‘UFC‘. The demo for the virtual MMA fighter has been out for two weeks, and there’s little doubt that the game was a fan favorite at E3.

Battle Princess of the Arcadias (PS3)

I first saw ‘Battle Princess of the Arcadias‘, back in February, and it’s easily one of my most anticipated NIS America titles. The game looks like a proper side-scrolling brawler with a colorful art style. It’s a perfect title for the summer doldrums.

Entwined (PS4)

‘Entwined’ was actually a surprise release from Sony in honor of E3. Aside from a few glimpses of the ‘Journey’ meets ‘Rez’ title, I haven’t yet gotten to play it, but it looks stellar.

MotoGP 14 (360, PS3, PC)

Straight from Italy comes ‘MotoGP 14‘, which boasts an overhauled graphics engine and a full rosters of drivers from both the 2013 and 2014 seasons. This is a must for racing fans.

Well, I haven’t played a MotoRacer game in years, but I liked the first two, so I may have to take a look at MotoGP 14

    • This is pretty much 4 for 4 for me. and I’m a little shocked that these games are all so promising. I do wonder when we’ll see MotoGP on the new consoles; I think it’ll be a big hit when it goes.

I have been hitting up the Retro games lately. I got Diablo 2 installed finally, but right now, I am hooked on Outpost for Windows 3.1 (had to install Dosbox to get it to run, and pick up the CD off of Amazon Marketplace for like $2.00). GOG is my crack. Picked up Real Myst recently but haven’t played it. Been playing the Monkey Island and the King’s Quest series as well. I think the only game I am playing right now that is made in the past 10 years is Stick of Truth (I got the Fable Series, Lego Harry Potter, Batman Arkham, and the Ninja Gaidain games sitting on the shelf unopened, and I started on Tales of Vesparia and Eternal Sonotra).

  2. Right now, I’m finishing older games. In the early 90’s, my father gave me a new game once I had completely finished the last game I received. Leaving games without seeing the credits still feels ‘sad’ to me, as if it’s not the way it’s meant to be. As such, in the last weeks, I have finally cracked L.A. Noire, New Super Mario Bros. U, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Learn with Pokémon: Typing Adventure, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Indiana Jones and The Emperor’s Tomb.
