Videogame Releases: Week of July 19th, 2011

If you’re interested in videogames that have a chance at being good, there’s only one title to be interested in this week. If you’re into licensed crap, however, you’ll find a few more!

Call of Juarez: The Cartel (360, PC, PS3)

The ‘Call of Juarez’ games have never enjoyed the level of critical and commercial success as something like ‘Gears of War’, but these Western-themed First Person Shooters enjoy decent enough scores from reviewers. It probably won’t beat out the larger titles, but for those sick of the whole space marine theme, ‘Call of Juarez: The Cartel’ is a good way to get a change of scenery.

Captain America: Super Soldier (3DS, 360, DS, PS3, Wii)

If you’re so excited about the ‘Captain America’ movie that you just can’t hold out until Friday, then you’re exactly the kind of chump that Sega is hoping to get money from. You’ll enjoy what’s almost certainly a sub-par gaming experience with snippets of plot here and there before you get a chance to see the flick. Friends don’t let friends buy licensed cash-grab games.

The Smurfs Dance Party (Wii)

I don’t even know anymore. Apparently, you’ll get to dance with your favorite Smurf characters to “chart-topping singles.” It’s a fairly nonsensical tie-in, but at least it’s just on the Wii and not crudding up one of the other systems.
