Videogame Releases: Week of December 22nd, 2013

It may be a holiday week for the games industry, but there are still a few gifts left to be opened.

Note: the ‘Dead Rising 3’ single player DLC episode ‘Operation Eagle’ that was set to release on December 24th has been pushed back to January 21st.

Halo: Spartan Assault (XBLA for Xbox One or 360)

This odd ‘Halo’ spinoff is set between the events of ‘Halo 3’ and ‘Halo 4’. It was released as a Windows 8 exclusive game this past summer, but now comes to the two current Xbox consoles with a new online co-op mode and the ‘Operation Hydra’ expansion. Despite its origins, this game looks fun even for non-‘Halo’ fans.

Max: Curse of the Brotherhood (Xbox One)

‘Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood’ is a 3D platformer made by a Copenhagen developer, the Microsoft-owned Press Play. The game was originally scheduled for 2014 but just made it in for 2013, and looks pretty great. (It reminds me of ‘Trine’.)

Zen Pinball 2 (PS4)

After being delayed in North America last week, ‘Zen Pinball 2‘ comes to the PS4 with many of the tables that players loved on the PS3 and other platforms, including multiple ‘Star Wars’ tables. Owners of the PS3 or PS Vita versions of these tables will get the PS4 versions for free. All PS4 owners will at least be able to play a demo of several great tables, as Zen Studios has licensed some of the best properties around, including Marvel, ‘Street Fighter 2’ and ‘Plants vs. Zombies’.
